For many, the topic of satellite television remains a mystery. If you think about it, what problem could it be to buy a satellite receiver and enjoy your favorite programs? However, it is worth understanding: having purchased equipment for viewing satellite channels, you do not get public access to any television programs. But this is not a reason to despair at all. We offer a brief overview of interesting receiver models, which will allow you to view any programs in good quality.
GOLDEN INTERSTAR GI-S890 CRCI HD EXCELLENCE
Externally quite attractive and compact. This model is the best creation of the company, including many different technical innovations. Nice display, convenient control panel, the rear panel has many connectors, including HDMI output.
By turning on this brainchild, you can see the native Russian menu, which is much more convenient than using equipment in the manufacturer’s language. Scanning is carried out quite quickly, after which you can see a list of available channels in a given area and save the necessary channels.
While studying the menu, pay attention to the many different functions: adjusting brightness, contrast, the presence of built-in games, managing network cards and decoders, managing conditional access modules, etc. If you are too lazy to understand all the intricacies of settings, the available function of automatically receiving settings will allow you to enjoy your favorite programs in the shortest possible time.
The device copes well with remote access cards. This feature is perfect for more advanced users, allowing them to experience the benefits of a quality product.
However, the receiver also has a number of shortcomings that would need to be further improved for the device to truly become a sales leader. The first thing I didn't like was the lack of recording. Maybe for some this is not significant, because live broadcasting is much better than recording, but the function is quite necessary. The second problem is the resulting image. Not to say that it is of poor quality, not at all, but in some places, for example, when watching over-the-air channels, it seems a little faded. However, with so many brightness and contrast settings, this shortcoming can be easily corrected.
KATHREIN UFS 910
This receiver has a slightly worse design compared to its colleague GOLDEN INTERSTAR. The functionality of this receiver is a little weak: the presence of two SI standard slots, a matrix display, several control buttons on the rear panel, digital audio output, and a standard set of outputs, including HDMI. Unfortunately, this device does not have a built-in card reader.
The Germans did not bother to properly modify the receiver and left it without a Russian-language menu. In addition to everything, there are only a few European satellites on the list, and there are no favorites for Russians. But it will not be difficult, in manual mode, to specify the parameters for viewing your favorite programs. According to the manufacturer, updates for the receiver will soon appear that will allow Russian-speaking citizens to fully use this device. This will be a breakthrough, to put it mildly, since writing out every channel in English, given the complexity of the Russian language, is sometimes problematic. The receiver software is written in Linux and anyone who understands the basics of programming will understand what we are talking about.
The menu of this device is typical for any receiver: antenna settings, image, sound, clock, OSD settings, etc.
But along with such problems with external design and difficulties in control, this receiver has a huge advantage. If you have a key to your favorite encrypted channel, then the ability of this device to work with dedicated cards will allow you to enjoy high-quality images for free.
Unlike GOLDEN INTERSTAR, the KATHREIN receiver has the ability to record, which will allow many not to miss their favorite television events, but to watch them recorded at a convenient time. Note that the image quality is an order of magnitude higher than that of its Chinese counterpart.
The receiver may not be as attractive, but it has many advantages that are worth paying attention to.
VANTAGE HD 7100
Stunning exterior design that evokes only positive emotions. It, like other professional devices, has a lot of useful functions: touch buttons, a large display, a universal card reader, two SI slots, works with conditional access modules, many connectors for connecting to a TV, external hard drives and storage devices.
The settings menu is made convenient and simple. The receiver allows you to create channel lists, identifying and saving favorites. The presence of a timer and recording function is another plus for this device. For those who have children, the limited access function will be just right.
The receiver supports two types of connecting external devices - USB and e-SATA. You can easily view or listen to the files that are on them or reset recordings of your favorite shows. The device can be updated automatically if you provide it with an update address.
The resulting image is amazing and requires no additional adjustments. The picture was tested on many channels and was more than satisfactory every time.
This model of receivers has just appeared on the market, but already has a good trend. But, like your favorite new product, it has a number of small drawbacks. The main one is the lack of widespread software, which makes working with it a little difficult. The device has just begun to appear on the market, so it is not worth judging it strictly. This model has many prospects, and at the same time, improvements will be made.
Based on the above, we can find out that the receiver market is quite dynamic, but requires additional attention from technical support. The choice of receiver will mainly depend on the necessary parameters or qualities that are inherent in a particular device, since a universal receiver has not yet been created.
Practical checklist for smooth viewing
Even the best CCCam or OSCam line needs two or three simple preparations. Update your receiver firmware, reset the ECM cache once a week and keep 15–20% free space on the USB stick or internal flash so that the reader can store keys without delays.
When tuning a dish, aim for MER/BER reserve: a two‑degree offset or a loose F‑connector often causes the “freezing” that users blame on cardsharing. Keep a short patch cord to test alternative routers, and save two profiles in OSCam — one for TCP, one for UDP — so you can switch instantly if your ISP starts filtering a protocol.
Utgard.tv monitors each hub 24/7, but you can speed up diagnostics by keeping a short log of your receiver actions. Note the time when you changed the channel, which CAID was active and whether you used Wi‑Fi or Ethernet. This tiny “journal” helps engineers reproduce your environment in the lab and return with a solution in minutes instead of hours.
- Keep two line slots enabled: if the first server hits a maintenance window, the second one instantly takes over without re-entering credentials.
- Run a monthly speed and latency test. Stable 1–2 Mbps with ping <80 ms is enough for SD/HD, but if jitter exceeds 20 ms, switch the router to wired mode.
- Save the Utgard.tv status page and Telegram bot @utgard_tv_bot to bookmarks — they publish maintenance notices before SEMrush or uptime monitors raise alerts.
